Serbia Scrambles MiG-29s in Response to Drones

Serbian President Vucic has issued a national order to military forces to shoot down any drones over central Serbia. At least (5) group III UAVs were spotted over Merdar and in the vicinity of Raška, observing Serbian Army Barracks and convoys currently en route to the border with Kosovo.

Military alert levels in Serbia have been set high in the last 24 hours as Kosovo announced a phaseout of historically renewed license plate reciprocation between the two countries. Following month long a postponement, the last deadline was November 1, when around 10,000 owners had to switch their old car registrations.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti on October 28 announced a gradual phaseout at the behest of Western leaders.

Now, drivers would first be given warnings during an initial three-week period starting today. Then a two-month period when 150-euro ($149) fines will be issued will follow. Then there will be be another two-month period during which temporary license plates will be valid.

If drivers do not change their plates by April 21, their vehicles will be confiscated, according to the government decree.

This has caused significant Serbian military forces to move South towards the border area, prompting the drone activity. Two MiG-29s were scrambled to patrol the skies over Southern Serbia, causing alarm.
