US seizes Iranian Oil Tanker, Increasing Tensions with Tehran

US seizes Iranian Oil Tanker, Increasing Tensions with Tehran

Date:

The US has instructed an Iranian oil tanker to head towards the US today, most likely in retaliation to Iranian capture of a different tanker bound for the US on Thursday. The Iranian navy tried to follow the ships but were unsuccessful.

Iran going after tankers is a common occurrence as in the past they have frequently captured western oil ships in retaliation for the sanctions put on them.

The US will likely use the oil for itself as it makes up for the loss of the tanker on Thursday. This is also one day after senators asked President Biden to allow the seizure of Iranian tankers as a method of retaliation.

Iran is known to respond with more seizures, but the US does not seem to be showing any signs of backing down, or easing relations.
