First French National Killed Fighting In Ukraine

The French Foreign Ministry confirmed today that the first of the nearly 150 French nationals that have gone to Ukraine to fight has been killed. According to local Parisan media, the fighter joined the Ukrainian Foreign Legion and was mortally wounded by artillery fire in Kharkiv Oblast.

“We learned the sad news that a Frenchman had been mortally wounded in fighting in Ukraine,” French Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a written response. “We extend our condolences to his family. 

The identity of the man has not been released. This story will be updated when that information becomes available.

According to President Zelensky, 20,000 foreign fighters have entered Ukraine through the INTERNATIONAL LEGION OF DEFENCE OF UKRAINE which was established after the February 24th invasion in order to recruit the large flow of foreign volunteers who wanted to fight against Russian forces who invaded the former soviet-bloc country.
