US DOD IG Estimates 7.1B USD of Equipment Left in Afghanistan

The Lead Inspector General for Operation Enduring Sentinel and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel released a report today to Congress documenting the total estimation of US-supplied gear left in Afghanistan amid the chaotic August ’21 withdrawal. It is important to note that the DoD purports that all gear used by U.S. forces was removed or destroyed, but the gear seized by the Taliban was in custody of the Afghan National Army.

The DoD estimates that a total of 7.1 B USD in gear was left including 923M in aircraft, 4.1 B in ground vehicles and 511.8 M in weapons. The full text of the findings can be found here.
