Demonstrations Unfold in Madrid Ahead of NATO Summit

Date:

Demonstrations have emerged in Madrid ahead of the June 28 NATO summit which is to take place in the Spanish state capital. Protesters are claiming that NATO has abused their tax money for imperialism, exploitation of global populations, and theft of natural resources across the world.

The Spanish state has declared its intention to expand NATO hegemony to its colonies in Ceuta and Melilla, as NATO currently does not have codified military jurisdiction over them. This will be one of the Spanish state’s primary objectives at the summit.

The call for NATO expansion over Ceuta and Melilla comes after an episode (video) where 18 displaced people were killed as a result of state negligence and police brutality while attempting to cross the border into Melilla last Friday. Displaced people are frequently brutalized and killed by Spanish and Moroccan forces while attempting to seek a more secure livelihood for themselves and their families.
