North Korea Launches Submarine-Launched Cruise Missiles

North Korea Launches Submarine-Launched Cruise Missiles

Date:

South Korean and North Korean state-owned media report that the North Korean military has launched two cruise missiles from a submarine near Sinpo, South Hamgyong.

The report from Chosun Central News Agency reads below:

“Strategic cruise missile underwater launch training was conducted at dawn on March 12.

The submarine, 8.24 Hero Ship, which was mobilized for launch training, launched two strategic cruise missiles from the Gyeongpo Bay area in the East Sea of ??Korea.

Through the launch drill, the reliability of the weapon system was confirmed and the operational readiness for underwater ground attack of the submarine units, which is another important part of the DPRK’s nuclear deterrence, was inspected and judged.

The launch training successfully achieved its purpose.

The two launched strategic cruise missiles hit the target by flying in an “8”-shaped flight trajectory for 7, 563s to 7, 575s, simulating the distance of the 1,500km mooring line set in the East Sea of ??Korea.

The Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea expressed satisfaction with the results of the firing drill.

Through the underwater launch training, the unchanging stand of the Korean military to control and manage the current situation, where the anti-DPRK military aggression of the US imperialists and the south Korean puppet fighters is being blatantly manifested with overwhelming force, was clearly expressed, and it was a means of deterring nuclear war in various spaces. Their current operational posture has been proven.”

The last submarine-launched missile event from the North Koreans occurred on May 7th, 2022 when North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile with a 600 km trajectory and an altitude around 60 km. The missile landed in the Sea of Japan. North Korea only has one Sinpo-class submarine capable of firing missiles, the 8.24 Hero, which can carry the Pukkuksong-1/3.

This is developing.
