U.S Secretary of State, Antony Blinken: The U.S. has given the “green light” to NATO countries if they choose to provide fighter jets to Ukraine. “In fact, we’re talking with our Polish friends right now about what we might be able to do to backfill their needs if in fact they choose to provide these fighter jets to the Ukrainians.” he said while speaking Sunday, March 6th. This comes as talks started about Poland providing MiG fighter jets to Ukraine, which hasn’t gone through yet. Blinken continued while speaking to CBS on “Face the Nation”: “What can we do? How can we help to make sure that they get something to backfill the planes that they are handing over to the Ukrainians? We’re in very active discussions with them about that. Look, I’ve been in Europe for the last couple of days working closely as always with our allies and partners at NATO, the European Union, the G7 countries, and all of us together are continuing to take steps to increase the pressure on Russia through additional sanctions, all of which are very actively under discussion and will be implemented in the in the coming days, as well as taking further steps to give the Ukrainians what they need to defend themselves against the Russian aggression.” He said this in a response to a question about Polish jets being sent to Ukraine as it was a member nation of NATO, and how that additionally NATO has said none of its 30 members are willing to set up a no fly zone. As well as how President Biden has been clear that he has no interest in a no fly zone or combat troops in Ukraine.

A White House spokesperson said the Biden administration is “evaluating the capabilities it could provide to backfill jets to Poland” if it did decide to transfer planes to Ukraine. Adding that there are several questions from this situation that arise, such as how the jets could be transferred from Poland to Ukraine, reported CBS. Oksana Markarova, the U.S Ukrainian ambassador, said she hopes the jets from Poland arrive in Ukraine “as soon as possible.”
