At around 0500 Lyiv local, 30 Russian cruise missiles struck the International Centre for Peacekeeping and Security in Yavoriv, where western military and civilian aid was being stockpiled for the Ukrainian resistance to the current Russian invasion.
This has been the most westward strike carried out against Ukraine thus far, being only 15 miles from the Polish border. It seems 35 have been confirmed killed and 157 wounded. Foreign NGO, foreign military advisers, Ukrainian civilians, and Ukrainian military members are all at the base.
Ukraine’s defence minister Oleksii Reznikov has said foreign military instructors work on the military training site in the Lviv region.
A defence ministry representative said they are still trying to establish if any of the instructors were at the facility at the time of the base.
Since 2015, the US has regularly sent instructors to the site and the facility has also hosted international NATO drills. However the US has also said that their conventional forces have departed Ukraine, so it is not clear who, if any, foreigners were killed in this strike. The Kremlin has warned that military materials from foreign countries are viable targets and will be engaged.
