Dozens Trapped in Tunnel Collapse, Uttarkashi, India

Update (0143 EST): Government officials have announced that at least 40 workers are still trapped.

At approximately 0026 EST, initial reports indicated that a tunnel collapse had occurred along the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India. Initially, at least 25 workers were reported trapped.

By 0034 EST, search and rescue had begun at the site which had been labeled the result of a landslide.

By 0100 EST, at least 62 workers had been reported missing and a special search and rescue team from the Uttarakhand, India State Disaster Response Force had been deployed with advanced equipment.
