Lava Flows North Away from Grindavik, President Urges Compliance

The lava fissure that has risen from the ground near Grindavik, Iceland has now reached 3.5km as the flow moves away from Grindavik city center. The President of Iceland has urged all citizens to follow law enforcement orders and avoid the flow, his announcement reads below:

”Good people of the country. An eruption has begun near Grindavík. It is not clear what damage it can cause, but now we rely on our scientists as well as all those who need to do monitoring and other operations. Above all else, we protect human life but we do all the defense of structures to the best of our ability. I send warm greetings to the people of Grindavík and those who now work on the scene. And of course, people have to follow all the recommendations of Public Protection in this dangerous moment.“
