M23 to Withdraw from Eastern DRC, They Say

The M23’s official release regarding withdrawal

After previously saying they wouldn’t, the M23 today (December 6th) released a Communique saying that they will indeed withdraw from territory it occupies in the Eastern DRC.

They also once again asked for direct talks with the Government in Kinshasa, who has thus far refused to speak with the M23, calling them a terrorist group.

The conflict between the M23 and the DRC Government has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

Whether they are genuine about their withdrawal remains to be seen.
