Rumors that planes would be ferrying volunteers out of Afghanistan to help earthquake recovery efforts in Turkey resulted in crowds of people rushing to the Kabul airport, believing they had an opportunity to leave the country. Taliban security forces at the airport, overwhelmed by the rush of hundreds of people, reportedly opened fire on the crowd, wounding several people.
