Japanese military forces have potentially located wreckage belonging to the JGSDF UH-60JA Black Hawk helicopter that disspareared from radar earlier this month off the coast of Miyako Island, according to NHK.
The helicopter disappeared during a surveying mission on April 6 around the Okinawa prefecture, prompting a week long search and recovery effort by Japanese forces. All 10 crew, including JGSDF commander Yuichi Sakamoto, are all presumed dead.
NHK reported that Japanese naval forces located partial wreckage on the sea bed, as well potential remains from the crew. Divers will be dispatched to the area in coming days to confirm that the wreckage is of the missing helicopter and recover the remains.
