Convoy Carrying American Nationals Reaches Port Sudan for Evacuation

United States State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has announced that a government-organized convoy carrying American and foreign nationals has arrived to Port Sudan from the capital of Khartoum for evacuation efforts.

In a statement, Miller added that from the port, “we are assisting U.S. citizens and others who are eligible with onward travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where additional U.S. personnel are positioned to assist with consular and emergency services.”

He added that “hundreds” of American citizens have been evacuated from Sudan since fighting started on April 15 by “land convoys, flights on partner air craft, and sea.”

The convoy, believed to be the first of several planned, made a 530 mile trek from the war torn capital to the port under protection by American drone assets.
