South Africa: Multiple Farm Attacks, Woman Beaten with Crowbar, Two Farmers Killed, and Elderly Friends Bound and Gagged, Assaulted

In the past week, brutal farm attacks have occurred in several South African provinces. On August 26th, in Vaalwater, Limpopo 53-year-old Janet Prinsloo was subjected to a 20-minute crowbar assault by two men who had gained access to her farm and had bound her hands and feet with a belt and shoelaces. The next day, on August 27th in the Western Cape, two women in their 80s were attacked on their farm by three men, who beat the women, gagged them and bound their hands and feet, before ransacking the house of valuables.

On the 29th, in the Eastern Cape a decorated engineer, 64-year-old Thys Van Niekerk was found on his farm in a pool of blood with his throat slit and multiple stab wounds.

Yesterday, 71-year-old Bloemfontein farmer Tj Tlali and his wife were attacked at their residence, Tj was found covered in multiple lacerations and succumbed to his injuries, while his wife, found under a mattress in critical condition, is now in hospital.

The increase in attacks is likely linked to the singing of ‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” by a 90,000-strong Economic Freedom Fighters rally in early August.
