The political landscape of Africa has one again drastically shifted as the Niger Junta, Mali, and Burkina Faso have formalized a military and economic alliance as the “Alliance of Sahel States” (AES). The alliance comes weeks after both Mali and Burkina Faso pledged military assistance to the Niger Junta after ECOWAS threatened to invade them following the nations coup.
Notably the alliance promises collective defence, but also states they will undergo joint moves against terrorism, something which both Mali and Burkina Faso suffer from extensively.
