President of Detroit Synagogue Found Dead Outside Her Home

The board president of a Detroit synagogue was found stabbed to death outside her home located in Lafayette Park, a neighborhood east of downtown Detroit, this morning.

Police said in a statement this afternoon that the president’s body was discovered outside her home at around 6:30 AM, alongside a trail of blood leading into her home, where authorities believe the crime took place. Police arrived on scene following reports of a woman who was unresponsive and lying on the ground. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 40-year-old president, Samantha Woll, had been the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue since 2022 and previously worked alongside two Democratic politicians, including Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and on the re-election campaign of Michigan’s current Attorney General, Dana Nessel.

“I am shocked, saddened, and horrified to learn of Sam’s brutal murder,” Nessel said in a statement. “Sam was as kind a person as I’ve ever known. She was driven by her sincere love of her community, state, and country. Sam truly used her faith and activism to create a better place for everyone.”

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Samantha Woll, our Board President.” Isaac Agree Synagogue mourned her loss in a Facebook post: “At this point, we do not have more information but will share more when it becomes available. May her memory be a blessing.”
