UN Announces Peacekeeper Death in CAR

The UN’s mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), MINUSCA, has announced the death of a Cameroonian ‘Blue Helmet’. MINUSCA stated that the peacekeeper was killed “following the detonation of an explosive device” while on a patrol in the village of Mbindale, where they were escorting a team of people from the International Organization for Migration.

They also stated that an additional five peacekeepers were injured in the same explosion, two of which were serious.

MINUSCA called upon CAR authorities to “identify those responsible for this attack against peacekeepers and bring them to justice”. They further added that attacks against peacekeepers can constitute a warcrime.
