Swedish Man Imprisoned In Iran, Chargé d’Affaires Summoned

On January 15th, Aftonbladet reported that a Swedish man in his 20s was arrested in Iran on unknown charges.

The man is a suspected gang member and is wanted by Swedish authorities in connection to a murder that occurred last year, in Västerås, Sweden. 

On January 17th, the Swedish government released a statement saying that the Iranian Chargé d’Affaires had been summoned to demand the immediate release of Swedish citizens arbitrarily detained in Iran. 

This follows a number of Swedes being imprisoned in Iran under various pretenses. The total number of Swedes imprisoned in Iran is unknown.
