Philippine Coast Guard Invites Vietnam to Joint Exercises in June

Yesterday, the Philippines asked the Vietnam Coast Guard to join the Regional Maritime Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX), taking place in the 3rd week of June.

Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos visited Vietnam from January 29th to January 31st and agreed to set up a “hotline” between the nations’ Coast Guards to combat tensions in the South China Sea.

MARPOLEX is a biannual drill held since 1986 to improve response to oil spills. This year, the drill will take place in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, in the Philippines.

Other countries, including the United States and South Korea, are invited either as participants or spectators.
