Australian PM Blames Russian Regime For Death of Alexei Navalny

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has stated Vladimir Putin is responsible for Alexei Navalny’s recent death in custody.

“Australia is shocked and saddened by the news of Alexei Navalny’s death, and we hold Vladimir Putin and the Russian regime responsible for this death in prison.”

“Vladimir Putin is an authoritarian, and we have a divide in the world between authoritarian regimes and democracies,” he said of the Russian President, during a press conference in Newcastle.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting the democratic process, the PM referenced the recent elections in Indonesia as a victory for democracy.

“We need to call out the behavior of authoritarians like Vladimir Putin” He went on to state, regarding the treatment of Navalny.

Navalny, a staunch critic of Vladimir Putin, died while incarcerated in a remote Arctic prison on February 16.
