German news agency DPA says that German Navy Sachsen-class frigate Hessen (F221) shot down two airborne munitions launched by Yemeni-based Houthi rebels today in the Red Sea.
This makes Hessen the first vessel operating under the EU’s Operations Aspides to defend against a Houthi attack.
Aspides is the new Greek and Italian-led EU counter-piracy mission to defend commercial shipping in the south Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
