Two Fatalities Reported in Houthi Attack Against Commercial Vessel

At least two crew are reported dead and several others were left wounded following a Houthi missile attack against the Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned commercial bulk carrier M/V True Confidence in the Red Sea.

The ship has been abandoned due to damage sustained during the attack.

If the fatalities are confirmed, this will mark the first deaths as a result of a Houthi attack against commercial shipping vessels in the region.

The Houthis have released a statement confirming the attack was carried out, stating that “the Yemeni Armed Forces persist in upholding their religious, moral and humanitarian duties in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people, and their operations in the Red and Arab Seas will not stop until the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”
