An Indian government minister said that the country will begin to produce equipment for the production of microprocessors.
Union Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said: “The entire semiconductor ecosystem of fabs, Assembly, Testing Marking, and Packing (AMTP) units, chemicals, gases, substrate, consumables & equipment for semiconductor manufacturing will be made in India.”
Vaishnaw made the comments during a dedication ceremony for the center for the design and qualification of semiconductor equipment. However, the minister did not say when India would build the factories to become self-sufficient; he also did not give a timeline on when the infrastructure would be built for the equipment.
