France Denies Russian Claims that French Soldiers are Preparing for Ukraine Deployment

Head of the Russian Foreign intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has claimed that France is preparing to deploy 2,000 soldiers to Ukraine, according to Russian state-media outlet TASS.

He further claimed that French troops have already been killed in Ukraine, although it was not specified if he meant military forces in an official capacity or volunteers in the Ukraine Foreign Legion . In January, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that “French mercenaries” were amongst 60 foreign fighters killed in an alleged missile strike in Kharkiv, which was denied by both French and Ukrainian officials.

French think tank “Little Think Tank” cited a source in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying “The maneuver orchestrated by Sergey Naryshkin, Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence, once again illustrates Russia’s systematic use of disinformation. We consider this kind of provocations irresponsible.”
