South Africa Water Crisis Continues: Dry Taps Across Johannesburg

On March 17, ENCA reported that residents across the city of Johannesburg in South Africa have had little to no water for weeks.

Johannesburg Water said in an announcement that the water system is under “severe strain”. Rand Water, a bulk supplier for the region warned that its water supply system faced imminent collapse, according to the Daily Maverick.

Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has promised an “action plan” to mitigate the water crisis. However, the Mayor has promised plans in the past, with no effective action materializing.

South Africa’s water and power crisis continues to expand in depth and frequency, according to Bloomberg.
