Seven Hospitalized After Boeing 787 Experiences “Extreme Turbulence”

At approximately 2037 EST, initial reports indicated that a United Airlines Boeing 787 Flight Number 85 from Tel Aviv, Israel to Newark, New Jersey experienced extreme turbulence. The incident was so severe that seven people onboard were hospitalized and the plane had to divert to Stewart Airport in New Windsor, New York.

Over 300 passengers and crew members were aboard United Airlines Flight 85 when it was diverted to Stewart International Airport around 1845. The injured were experiencing nausea, vomiting, anxiety and motion sickness. Seven passengers were taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall.

As of this publication it appears that the incident was due to high winds and not any technical malfunction on the troubled 737 and 787 airframes which have been making the news after a series of malfunctions in 2024.
