Gantz to Leave War Government if Demands Not Met

Israeli War Cabinet member, Benny Gantz, has given an ultimatum to Prime Minister Netanyahu that he will leave the current war government coalition if he is not presented with a strategic plan by June 8th, 2024. Gantz is calling for a comprehensive plan of action with six objectives including:."…the return of our hostages, the dissolution of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Strip, the establishment of a governing alternative in Gaza, the return of the residents of the north by September 1, the promotion of normalization and the adoption of the Israeli millitary service outline.".This announcement comes days after Israeli Defense Minister Gallant warned that the Prime Minister must present a post-conflict plan for Gaza during an address..These two statements outline how fragile the Israeli War Cabinet has become as international pressure to end the war, Netanyahu's strategic ambiguity on post-war plans, and domestic politics are coming to loggerheads..If Gantz leaves the current unity government, Netanyahu will still have a majority with the national camp holding 64 seats. However, his departure would most likely exacerbate domestic tensions and impede the war effort..The Israeli War Cabinet (Unity Government) was formed immediately after October 7th and is comprised of Netanyahu; Yoav Gallant, the minister of defense; and former Chief of the General Staff, Benny Gantz.
