Chinese Fighter Mockup for Sci-Fi Series Spurs Confusion Online

Footage has been going around online appearing to show a futurist Chinese aircraft, leading to some speculation that it is a previously unknown 6th generation fighter concept being developed.

In actuality, the aircraft is a model used to promote a sci-fi brand created by China’s top military aircraft producer.

The “aircraft,” called the “Advanced Air Combat System,” is a fictitious space fighter platform that was first unveiled at the 2022 Zhuhai Airshow to promote the “Nantiamen Project,” a sci-fi IP created by AVIC Global Culture Communication.

The premise of the Nantiamen Project is that China creates a global coalition to counter extraterrestrial attacks using advanced combat technology.

It is important to note that AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) is a Chinese state-owned aerospace and defense conglomerate responsible fr the development of most of China’s military aviation platforms.

The creation of Nantiamen Project can be viewed as a brand meant to promote future air combat concepts. The “Advanced Air Combat System” model is presented similarly to the “Dark Star” used in the newest Top Gun movie.

Models of the “Advanced Air Combat System,” along with other fictitious aircraft from Nantiamen Project, are currently sold online.
