Macron Announces Release of French National Held in Iran

President Emmanuel Macron has announced that French national Louis Arnaud has been released from Iranian prison.

Arnaud was detained by Iranian authorities in September 2022 and accused of making propaganda against Iran. In August 2023, he was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison.

Arnaud’s family maintained his innocence, previously stating that “he was unjustly targeted, imprisoned, and now convicted on baseless charges, stripping him of his freedom and rights” while on a trip to the country.

Speaking on his release, Macron posted to X that “Louis Arnaud is free. He will be in France tomorrow after too long incarceration in Iran.”

Macron also called for the release of Cécile Kohler, Jacques Paris and “Olivier,” three other French nationals being held in Iran.
