Bolivian President Swears in New Military Commanders Amid Coup

Bolivian President Luis Arce has sworn in new commanders for the country’s armed forces amid a military coup led by Army General Juan Jose Zuniga.

Earlier today, military forces stormed the Presidential Palace in the Bolivian capital, with Zuniga announcing that “Surely soon there will be a new Cabinet of ministers; our country, our state cannot go on like this.”

Arce and Zuniga faced off in the hallways of the palace, where Arce demanded that Zuniga withdraw his forces and back down, which was refused.

Meanwhile, Arce has called on Bolivians to take to the streets and oppose the coup.
