Two Chinese Coast Guard Ships Board Taiwan Fishing Vessel near Kinmen Island

On July 2nd, two Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessels boarded and detained the Dajinman No. 88, a Taiwanese fishing boat off the Kinmen island coast of China. The Penghu fishing vessel was escorted to the Weitou military port in Fujian, China. The boat had six crew members on board, five of whom were migrant workers.

Taiwan dispatched two coast guard vessels to respond to the incident, however the CCG intercepted them. The Taiwan maritime authorities released a statement that calls for the CCG to refrain from engaging in “political manipulation” and “to release the Dajinman ship and crew as soon as possible.” The CCG has yet to respond to this incident.
