13 California Hikers Located, Search and Rescue Assisting Evacuation from Royal Fire

At approximately 2050 EST on July 7th, 2024, a large brush fire broke out in Royal Gorge, California.

By 0100 EST this morning, that fire spread to 54 acres near the Tahoe National Forest.

By 0900 ET this morning, the Placer Sheriff’s Office told press that 13 hikers were missing in the vicinity of this fire and that search and rescue have been deployed to find them.

By 1030 EST, the Placer Sheriff’s Office announced that search and rescue teams found the hikers by helicopter and were to deploy a ground guide to help evacuate the party from the smoked-out trail.
