New People’s Army Rebel Killed in Clash By Philippine Forces in Masbate City

On July 10th, a rebel from the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in Masbate City, Masbate Province, by Philippine forces. The 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army Spokesperson, Major Frank Roldan, stated that the NPA member and 14 other guerillas engaged with the 96th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Igang at approximately 8:00 a.m. local time for roughly 10 minutes.

The 14 other guerillas abandoned the fighter after the firefight. The Philippine military recovered a M14 rifle, a M16 rifle, and other personal belongings from when the firefight took place. This is the most recent engagement with NPA rebels since July 8th, where Vergel Balcueva, leader of the Front Operational Command of the Sub-regional Committee 2 was killed in Tinambac town in Camarines Sur Province.
