Argentina Calls on OAS to Address Venezuelan Asylees

Argentina's representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) stated during a meeting of the transnational organization on Wednesday that the OAS must address the expulsion of Argentina's diplomatic staff from Venezuela by President Nicolas Maduro's regime due to concerns regarding the six Venezuelan asylees residing in Argentina's embassy..The representative for Argentina stated Maduro's government ordered those who were allowed asylum in Argentina to leave in the same manner as the Argentine diplomatic staff, raising concerns regarding the health, wellbeing, and safety of those granted asylum.."He [Maduro] tells the persons who have been given asylum to exit with the Argentine diplomats … they say it's just an administrative matter that Argentina should resolve, but how if they don't let them out? Do the asylees have wings so as to fly?" The representative stated. "Given the lack of guarantees without safeguarding the physical integrity or safety of our asylees, the Argentine Republic sounds an alert, a warning on this situation.".The representative further called the results of Venezuela's Sunday presidential election a "fraud," stating that the results of the election "have been published and have been up on the internet," by the opposition. The representative further criticized Maduro's regime's suppressing the right to vote in Venezuela to those overseas and foreigners who attained citizenship living in the country.
