The Islamic Resistance of Iraq, an umbrella organization of Iran-backed Shia militias, has claimed responsibility of another drone attack against American forces at the al-Assad Airbase in al-Anbar Governorate.
So far there have been no reports of casualties.
In a statement, the group said:
In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful
Permission has been given to those who fight because they have been wronged, and indeed, God is Able to grant them victory.
Believe God Almighty
This afternoon, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the American occupation base in western Iraq, “Ain al-Asad,” with a drone, hitting its targets directly.
This latest attack comes amid a series launched against American airbases and garrisons in Iraq and Syria. The Islamic Resistance of Iraq has claimed responsibility for two previous attacks against al-Assad and al-Harir Airbase earlier this week.
While the Pentagon has stated that the ramp up in attacks is not related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, they do come as the United States attempts to deter Iran, as well as its armed proxies, such as Hezbollah, from getting more involved in the fighting and escalating the situation into a regional war. Iran-backed groups have historically targeted American forces in Iraq and Syria in response to Israeli military activity.
