Pentagon Boosts Missile Defense with Next-Gen Space Sensors: A New Era in Threat Detection
Missile Defense Agency to Launch Discriminating Space Sensor by 2029
The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is preparing to enhance its space-based missile-tracking capabilities by launching a new discriminating space sensor (DSS) by 2029. This innovative sensor is designed to improve the US military’s ability to distinguish between missile targets and enemy countermeasures, a critical advancement in modern missile defense. According to MDA Director Lt. Gen. Heath Collins, the DSS has already completed ground concept testing and is now moving into the on-orbit demonstration phase. The introduction of this sensor will play a crucial role in maintaining the US's technological edge as adversaries continue to develop more sophisticated missile countermeasures.
