Explosions and Fire Reported at Romania’s Largest Oil Refinery

At approximately 0800 EST, reports began to emerge of several explosions and a fire at Petromidia Oil Refinery in Navodari, Romania. The workers have been evacuated from the site as of 0930 EST and emergency services have confirmed there were no casualties from the initial blast. However, one firefighter is being treated for a leg injury. As of this post, the fire has not been brought under control and operations have ceased at the plant. There is currently no proposal for the cause of the incident.

In 2021 an explosion rocked the plant and killed one worker, but the cause was determined not to involve foul-play.
