At 3:30 local time on Tuesday, pagers all over Lebanon unexpectedly (but simultaneously) exploded in the pockets and hands of members of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, who began using the devices in February due to the difficulty of hacking them. The attack resulted in 2,800 injuries and 12 deaths. The injured included Motjaba Amani, an Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, who lost his eye to the explosion. Wednesday afternoon, the operation appeared to enter a second phase. Hezbollah walkie-talkies and solar energy systems exploded all over Beirut, injuring hundreds more and killing 3 more. Over the last 24 hours, the West has been scrambling to make sense of the situation.
