China Responds to Philippine Senator Missile Attack Claims

On July 4th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to Senator Imee Marcos’ claim that China is planning to use hypersonic missiles against the Philippines. Mao stated at a press briefing that “China is committed to peaceful development and a national defense policy that is defensive in nature, and China does not pose a threat to any country.”

Senator Imee Marcos’ warned that 25 areas in the Philippines could be targets by Chinese hypersonic missile strikes due to the rising tensions in the South China Sea. The Philippines’ National Security Council clearly stated that the Philippines is not facing an “imminent attack”, despite Imee Marcos’ claims.
