Sri Lanka Supreme Court Dismisses Case To Prevent Presidential Election

On July 8th, Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court dismissed a court case to prevent the government from calling the presidential election. The case sought to delay the election until the court delivered its interpretation on the date when it could occur.

However, the judges assigned to hear the case ruled five to zero to dismiss it because they believed the presidential term was five years instead of six, according to the plaintiff’s argument.
