Thailand’s Electoral Commission Denies It is Delaying Announcing Results of Senate Elections

On July 8th, Thailand’s Electoral Commission (EC) denied allegations that it was delaying the announcement of the certified results of 200 new senators. The allegations came after the EC did not announce or certify the results of the June 26th senate elections.

The EC Chairman said the result “could not be announced because several issues must be addressed first.”

Several of the election’s winners and losers are pressuring the EC to certify the results to prevent the current senators from remaining in their positions. Other individuals are calling for the EC to investigate allegations of electoral fraud and questionable eligibility rulings.

However, the Thai Senate’s Organic Law does not provide “an exact timeframe” for when the EC has to announce the results.
