Turkmenistan and United Nations Signed Strategic Agreements During Meeting

On July 8th, Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Program signed strategic agreements to advance and strengthen their long-term partnership to allow the country to achieve its national development priorities.

Turkmenistan and the UN signed the agreements as part of the UN’s effort to support the country’s efforts to increase progress towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. One project, “Capacity Building for the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan,” is to support the country’s electoral systems and strengthen its election commission’s capacity by “sharing best international practices and organizing relevant training activities.”

“Enhancing the Capacity of the Board of Lawyers in Turkmenistan in Ensuring Human Rights” is “to enhance legal aid provisions aligned with international standards.” The project is funded by the UK government and will be jointly implemented with the Presidium of Boards of Lawyers in the city of Ashgabat.
