On July 19th, Singaporean authorities rescued 36 crew members from two oil tankers that caught fire after they collided approximately 34 miles (55 kilometers) northeast of Pedra Branca Island, located at the eastern entrance of the Singapore Strait..The tankers, the Sao Tome and Principe-flagged Ceres I and the Singapore-flagged Hafnia Nile, collided at approximately 6 a.m. local time after they caught fire. Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said that 26 crewmembers of the Ceres I remained on the tanker to combat the fire..However, the MPA said that all 22 crewmembers from the Hafnia Nile were rescued and that there are currently no reports of an oil spill due to the collision..The MPA also said that navigational traffic in the area is not affected by the incident.
