Suspected Poachers Killed in Firefight with Zimbabwean Rangers

Two men suspected of poaching were killed after exchanging gunfire with Zimbabwean Rangers, close to the Kazungula border guard post in Matabeleland North province on Tuesday, March 19th.

Three additional suspects were arrested, with one managing to escape, according to a report by a spokesperson from Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.

Authorities recovered around fifteen elephant tusks along with a rifle chambered in .375 caliber with five rounds of ammunition.

The arrest and gunfight came after the death of six elephants due to poisoning before alleged poachers removed their tusks within the Shangani Wildlife Conservancy near Hwange National Park.
