China Critic Suidani Reelected to Provincial Seat in Solomon Islands Election

Results indicate that Daniel Suidani, a prominent critic of China in the Solomon Islands, was reelected as Premier of Malaita province on April 18^th.

Suidani defeated current Malaita premier Martin Fini shortly after the national government ousted him in a no-confidence vote in February 2023.

The national parliament convened the vote due to Suidani’s refusal to recognize China, banning Chinese companies from operating in the province, and accepting U.S. aid.
