Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council Increases Alert for Travelers to China Over New Opinions

On June 27th, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) upgraded its travel alert for China, Hong Kong, and Macau to Level Orange. The MAC also advised Taiwanese citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to China, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The statement said the decision is due to China’s recent “Opinions on Punishing, in Accordance with the Law, The Crimes of Secession, and Incitement to Secession Committed by Hardcore ‘Taiwan Independence’ Elements.”

The MAC advised the individuals not to discuss sensitive issues, carry books on Taiwanese history, politics, religion, etc., and photograph airports, military sites, or seaports if they do travel to China, Hong Kong, or Macao.
