Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service forces consist of the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Command, which has three brigades subordinate to it. The Counter-Terrorism Service (Jihaz Mukafahat al-Irhab, originally translated as Counter-Terrorism Bureau) is funded by the Iraq Ministry of Defense.

In 2008, NATO and the United States decided to join the Iraqi Special Operations Forces to the Joint Forces Command JIATF, which is currently managed by NATO, and decided to establish four regional commands and a special and joint intelligence service between Iraq and the United States NATO to exchange information on terrorism in the region and Iraq and lead tasks in partnership with them to destroy terrorist networks in Iraq and the Middle East.
