At least seven people have been shot and killed in Half Moon bay in multiple shootings, off highway 92 on mainstreet in downtown Half Moon Bay. Three were found within a home on a mushroom farm, with another being found nearby.

The shootings were reported to be in the 12700 block of San Mateo Road/Highway 92, while the second crime scene was reported at 2125 Cabrillo Highway.

“The Sheriff’s Office is responding to a shooting incident with multiple victims in the area of HWY 92” San Mateo County Sheriff Department said in a statement on Twitter

Half Moon Bay lies approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco with a population of 1,795 as of the 2020 census.

Law Enforcement have reported the suspect, a 67-year-old Zhao Chunli, has driven himself to the sheriff substation in Half Moon Bay, turned himself in and has been arrested.

This marks the fourth mass shooting in California since the start of 2023, with the shooting in Monterey Park fresh in the minds of Californians.

A mass shooting broke out in a dance hall in Monterey Park, California on the 22nd as many celebrated the beginning of Lunar New Year. Monterey Park boasts a majority Asian population, with 65% being Asian-American, one of the largest in the country.

The suspect, 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio killing 10 people and wounding more before moving onto Lai Lai Ballroom where he was disarmed by a patron. One person later succumbed to injuries, bringing the death total to 11.

SWAT officers came into an hours-long standoff at the scene of a white cargo van, which fit the description of a vehicle of interest from the Monterey Park shooting. After ordering the vehicle to stop, officers reportedly heard a sound and believed the driver had shot himself. Upon searching the van, officers found Tran had committed suicide, alongside “several pieces of evidence” linking Tran to the shootings in Monterey Park and Alhambra.
