UPDATED (2PM EST): Shooting At Moldova Airport Leaves Casualties, Suspect Arrested

An unknown shooter has opened fire on border security services at Chisinau International Airport in Moldova, according to local media, leaving an unconfirmed number of killed and wounded.

“Recently, an incident occurred at the Chisinau International Airport, during which a foreign citizen used a firearm who was not allowed to enter the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Authorities confirm information about two victims. The FULGER Special Forces Police Brigade is currently on the scene,” Moldovan law enforcement said in an impromptu statement.



 

According to Moldovan media, the attacker was a Russian citizen that arrived on a flight from Turkey and forcefully obtained a firearm from a member of Moldova’s security forces at passport control. In the ensuing firefight, 2 reported border service officers suffered fatal wounds.

“At this moment the danger has been eliminated. The aggressor was wounded and is being treated,” the police later reported after special response units had engaged. The nation’s General Prosecutor’s Office has stated that they have already begun an investigation.

UPDATE

A 43-year-old Tajik man has been identified as the suspect that allegedly stole a Moldovan security officer’s firearm and shot an airport security guard, a border control officer, and a civilian and being wounded by law enforcement. The security guard and border control officer died at the scene.

“Chisinau Airport has resumed regular flights after a shooting incident that killed two people and injured another,” the airport said in a statement.
